How Many EV Charging Companies Are There?

No official count exists. AFDC lists 111 named charging networks in the US and Canada. Who has the most ports, and how to evaluate a charging company.

EVDANCE Insights · EV Charging Guides

There is no single official count of EV charging companies, because the term covers charging networks, hardware manufacturers, installers and software providers. The best public benchmark for networks is the U.S. Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC), which listed 111 named charging networks in the US and Canada on October 15, 2026, plus a separate category for non-networked stations. Many more companies make, install or maintain the equipment.

What Counts as an EV Charging Company?

When people ask how many charging companies exist, they usually mean one of four groups. Each one plays a different role at the same charging site.

TypeWhat they doQuestion to ask them
Charging network / operator (CPO)Runs stations, sets prices, handles driver payment and supportWhat uptime do you report, and who fixes faults?
Network service providerSupplies the software that connects chargers, often for many site hostsCan I switch software later without replacing hardware?
Hardware manufacturerDesigns and builds the chargersWhich certifications does each model carry for my market?
Installer / contractorDesigns the electrical work, gets permits and installsAre you licensed locally, and who handles utility coordination?

If you are a site host, our guide to how commercial EV charging stations work shows how these roles fit together.

How Many Charging Networks Are There?

The AFDC Station Locator listed 111 named networks on October 15, 2026, covering the US and Canada. The list changes often: several networks were added in 2025 and 2026, and some older networks have merged into others. AFDC also lists non-networked stations as their own category.

Network size varies widely. Some networks report tens of thousands of ports; others report fewer than ten. A small regional network can still be the right partner for a local site.

Who Has the Most EV Charging Stations?

By charging ports listed in AFDC’s network table (US and Canada, October 15, 2026), the largest entries were:

Network (AFDC listing)Charging ports
ChargePoint91,310
Tesla Supercharger43,309
Blink22,400
Non-networked stations (all owners)18,067
Tesla Destination16,231

Port counts measure size, not quality. They mix Level 2 and DC fast ports, and a network service provider may count ports owned by many separate businesses. For current figures, filter the AFDC Station Locator by network.

How to Evaluate the “Top” EV Charging Companies

We do not rank other companies. The right partner depends on your site, your users and your market. Use these criteria instead:

  • Reliability: ask for reported uptime and response times for repairs.
  • Open standards: hardware that supports OCPP can move to another software platform; see OCPP explained.
  • Payment: check how drivers pay, including card readers and apps.
  • Certification: in the US, look for NRTL listing such as UL or ETL; see UL and ETL listing explained.
  • Warranty and spare parts: ask who repairs units and how fast parts arrive.
  • Data access: confirm you can export session and energy data.

EVDANCE is a hardware manufacturer founded in Shenzhen in 2011, exporting to 30+ countries with a 3-year standard warranty. For shared sites, the EV-AC03201T dual-gun AC station offers two Type 2 guns, OCPP 1.6J and RFID, and the EV-RHDC30K-L compact DC charger delivers about 20–30 kW DC with OCPP 1.6J.
