In most EV charger grant schemes you do not claim the money on your own after the work is done. You check eligibility, apply and get approval before installation, use an approved installer and charger, and then evidence is submitted to release the payment. In the UK the OZEV-authorised installer claims the grant and deducts it from your invoice; in Ireland you send SEAI a Payment Request Form; in the US the federal 30C credit is claimed on your tax return, while most other help comes from state and utility rebates.
How EV Charger Grants Work
Almost every scheme follows the same order:
- Check eligibility for your property, parking and location.
- Get a quote from an approved installer for an approved charger.
- Apply and wait for approval before any work starts.
- Install within the deadline in your approval letter.
- Submit evidence such as invoices, photos and electrical certificates.
- Receive payment as an invoice discount or bank transfer.
How to Claim, Country by Country
The main home schemes as of October 15, 2026 (confirm current rules on the official scheme website):
| Country | Scheme | Who claims | Timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| UK | OZEV chargepoint grants (renters and flat owners, landlords, on-street parking, Workplace Charging Scheme): 75% of the cost up to £500 per socket | You apply first; after installation the installer claims and deducts the grant from your invoice | OZEV estimates up to 10 working days to assess applications and claims; funding runs to March 31, 2027 |
| Ireland | SEAI EV Home Charger Grant: up to €300 | You (or a registered third party) submit a Payment Request Form | Install within 6 months of the Letter of Offer; payment about 4–6 weeks after SEAI has all documents |
| United States | IRS Section 30C credit; state and utility rebates | You, on Form 8911 with your tax return, or on the rebate program’s form | 30C amounts apply to property placed in service January 1, 2023 – June 30, 2026 |
Who Gets an EV Charger Grant?
- UK: renters and flat owners with private off-street parking, residential landlords, households with only on-street parking installing a cross-pavement solution, and workplaces. Owner-occupiers of houses are not eligible for the flats and renters grant.
- Ireland: homeowners and residents with off-street parking linked to the home. Only one grant-funded charger is allowed per electricity meter point (MPRN), and the charger must be on SEAI’s Smart Charger Register.
- United States: eligibility depends on your state and utility. The DSIRE database is a good place to start. For the 30C credit, the location also had to be in an eligible census tract.

Why Claims Get Delayed or Refused
Most problems come from paperwork:
- Starting work before the approval or Letter of Offer arrives.
- Using an unapproved installer or charger model.
- Missing photos. UK claims now need a close-up of the charger, a photo showing the model and serial number, the charger with its parking space, and a wide view of the building.
- No grant deduction on the invoice (UK), or a missing Certificate Number 3 and test record sheet (Ireland).

Choosing a Charger That Qualifies
Schemes usually require an approved smart charger. For Type 2 markets, the EVDANCE EV-ACT3204E wallbox offers up to 22 kW on a three-phase supply, a Type 2 cable or socket, and RFID and app control. In North America, the EV-ACT5006T Level 2 wall charger delivers up to 48 A with a NACS connector and ETL, FCC and CE marks. Confirm the exact model is on your scheme’s approved list before you apply.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does an EV charger grant take?
OZEV estimates up to 10 working days to assess UK applications and claims. SEAI says payment usually takes about 4–6 weeks after it receives all documents.
Can I claim a grant after the charger is already installed?
Usually not. UK and Irish schemes treat work done before approval as ineligible. Some US utility rebates do accept claims after installation, so read the program terms before you book.
Do I need a smart charger to get a grant?
In the UK and Ireland, yes in practice: the charger must be an eligible smart model. Some US rebates also set equipment rules, such as ENERGY STAR certification. Check the scheme’s equipment list.
