Colombia passed a milestone in August 2026: electrified vehicles made up 50.6% of new car sales, according to El Colombiano, reporting on September 16, 2026. The rapid growth is putting pressure on the country’s charging network, which has about 520 public chargers.
Sales Figures
- August 2026: 4,542 battery EVs (up 176%) and 9,195 hybrids.
- January–August 2026: 33,889 EVs, up 222.5%.
- Tesla led with 14,107 units (41.6%), followed by BYD with 7,332 (21.6%).
Charging Infrastructure
Colombia has about 520 public chargers. Resolution 40334, issued in July 2026, simplifies grid connection for charging stations. Private investment is also growing: Inpel plans 400 charging points with an investment of about COP 80 billion, and Cien plans 100 stations in 24 cities by June 2027.

What It Means
With EV sales growing much faster than public charging, most new owners will depend on home and workplace charging. That creates demand for affordable wallboxes and portable chargers. See our Colombia supplier page and our residential charging solutions.
