Logo and Branding Options for Private-Label EV Chargers

EVDANCE Insights · EV Charging Guides

Branding is what turns a well-built charger into your product. It is also where many first private-label projects go wrong: a logo that rubs off after one winter in a garage, a housing colour that does not match the box, or a smart front panel that leaves no room for the rating label.

This article covers the branding options available on portable and wall-mounted EV chargers, how each holds up in use, and the legal marks that must stay visible however you decorate the product. It is part of our complete guide to OEM and private-label EV chargers.

Start with a protected brand

Before you put a name on a housing, make sure you can use it. A trademark that is registered, or at least filed, in each sales market protects the money you are about to spend on tooling, printing and packaging. In the US, federal trademark registration gives nationwide rights and can be recorded with customs to help stop infringing imports. Our guide to registering your trademark before ordering private-label chargers covers the EU, the UK and China as well.

Then prepare a simple artwork pack for the factory: vector logo files (AI, EPS, PDF or SVG), Pantone or RAL colour references, and a short brand guide showing minimum logo size and clear space. Good input files avoid rounds of corrections later.

Logo methods on the housing

EV charger housings are usually moulded plastic. The right decoration method depends on the shape of the surface, the detail in your logo and how much handling the unit will get.

MethodBest forThings to know
Pad printingCurved surfaces, one or two coloursGood detail; ask for adhesion and rub test results
Screen printingFlat panels and larger areasBright, opaque colour; flat surfaces only
Laser markingPermanent logos and serial numbersVery durable; the colour depends on how the plastic reacts
Printed overlay or front labelDisplay panels and wall boxesAllows full-colour graphics; check UV and moisture resistance
Moulded-in logoLarger volumes and new housingsNeeds mould changes; extremely durable

Whatever method you choose, ask how the factory tests durability. Rubbing with alcohol, tape adhesion and a period in heat and humidity are common checks. A portable charger is handled, dropped and rained on, so durability matters more than it does for many indoor products.

Colours, cable and connector

Housing colour is set at the injection moulding stage by the plastic material and its colour masterbatch. EVDANCE moulds housings in-house, so colour changes can be sampled before production. Ask for a physical colour sample rather than relying on a screen match, because the same Pantone reference looks different on textured plastic.

On portable chargers the cable is a strong branding surface. The jacket can carry your brand name printed along its length, and cable colour can become part of the design. Cable printing normally also carries technical markings such as conductor size and ratings, so your brand text sits alongside them. Cable lengths of 25 ft or 28 ft for North America and about 5 m or 7.5 m elsewhere are available.

The connector handle, whether NACS (SAE J3400), J1772 or Type 2, can carry a small logo. Keep it simple, because the area is small and is gripped every day.

Screens, apps and packaging

LCD boot logo and charging graphics

On models with an LCD, EVDANCE can load a custom boot logo and charging graphics. Supply artwork at the screen’s exact resolution and review it on a sample, since small text can be hard to read on a compact display.

White-label app

Smart-charging models can be supplied with a white-label mobile app that shows your brand name, icon and colours, so the customer sees your brand from unboxing to the first charge.

Packaging, manuals and storage cases

Packaging is often the first thing your customer sees. Options include printed retail boxes, branded manuals and custom EVA hard-shell storage cases with your logo. Our article on private-label packaging, labeling and manuals covers artwork, languages and warning text in more detail.

Marks that must stay legible

Branding cannot crowd out regulatory information. Plan space for the rating label and required marks before you finalise the design:

  • CE marking for the EU: it must be visible, legible and indelible and at least 5 mm high unless product rules say otherwise
  • EU economic operator details: under Article 4 of Regulation (EU) 2019/1020, the name and contact details of the responsible EU operator must appear on the product, its packaging or an accompanying document
  • Safety listing marks for North America, which must match the certified product
  • Rating information such as voltage, current, frequency, model number and serial number
  • Disposal and environmental symbols where required

Your Europe also notes that a business selling a product under its own name or brand is treated as its manufacturer for CE purposes, so the label must identify your company correctly in that role.

In North America, a safety listing has to cover your brand name. UL, for example, offers a Multiple Listing service that lets identical certified products be sold under different brand names, with each brand shown in its online database. Certification marks vary by model, so request the certificate and test report for the exact model and configuration. Our article on rating labels and required markings lists the marks market by market.

Approving the branding

Before mass production, collect these approvals in writing:

  • Signed artwork drawings for housing, cable, connector, screen and packaging
  • A physical colour sample and a fully decorated pre-production sample
  • Durability test results for printed logos
  • A rating label proof checked against the certificate
  • Photos of the final golden sample, kept by both sides

If you would like to see how housings are moulded and decorated, book a factory tour, or start with our OEM and ODM program.

Key Takeaways

  • File a trademark before investing in branded tooling, printing and packaging.
  • Choose the decoration method by surface and use, and ask for durability test results on printed logos.
  • Housing, cable, connector, LCD screen, app and packaging can all carry your brand on EVDANCE models.
  • Reserve space for the CE mark, economic operator details, listing marks and rating label, and keep them legible.
