New South Wales has announced A$16.5 million in funding for kerbside and fleet EV charging, as reported by The Driven on September 18, 2026. The grants help councils, businesses and not-for-profits lower the cost of charging hardware and installation.

Sites must use 100% renewable electricity in perpetuity. Eligibility for kerbside grants expands from 32 to 37 local government areas, adding Blue Mountains, Camden, Campbelltown, Hawkesbury and Wollondilly. NSW has more than 155,000 registered EVs.

Why Kerbside Charging Matters

Kerbside chargers serve residents without off-street parking, a large share of households in inner-city areas. Per-port grants make AC kerbside charging far more affordable for councils.

What It Means for Buyers

For installers and distributors in Australia, the grants create demand for Type 2 AC chargers and DC units for councils and fleets. Equipment must meet Australian electrical safety requirements, including RCM marking under the EESS. See our Australia market page.
