European charging operator Allego has committed €100 million to expand its network in the United Kingdom. According to electrive, reporting on August 1, 2026, the investment is backed by Allego’s owner Meridiam and targets up to 1,400 ultra-rapid chargers by 2030.
Plan Highlights
- €100 million investment, backed by Meridiam.
- Up to 1,400 ultra-rapid chargers in the UK by 2030.
- London is a priority area.
- Allego uses a lease model with site hosts; its partners include IKEA, REWE and Burger King.
Why the UK
The UK has a large EV market and many drivers without off-street parking, especially in London. That makes public rapid charging important. Allego CEO Steven Salo commented on the plan in the announcement.

What It Means
Large public networks cover rapid charging, while homes, workplaces and destinations still need AC charging. In the UK, that means Type 2 wallboxes and chargers that meet local installation and smart charging rules. See our UK supplier page.
