Chinese EV Charger Manufacturers: Factory, Trading Company or Marketplace Seller?

How to tell a real Chinese EV charger factory from a trading company or marketplace reseller, what each is good for, and the documents that prove who builds your chargers.

EVDANCE Insights · EV Charging Guides

When you search for an EV charger manufacturer in China, three kinds of company answer: real factories that build chargers on their own lines, trading companies that buy from several factories, and marketplace sellers that list whatever is in stock. All three can supply a charger. Only a factory can control the design, the components and the test records behind your brand, so for a private-label program you need to know which one you are talking to before you pay for samples.

The quick answer: ask for the business licence, the certificate holder name on the test reports, and a live video walk through the production line. A factory can show all three in one call; a trader usually cannot.

Trading companies are not bad partners. They can consolidate many product types into one container and handle export paperwork for small buyers. The risk comes when a trader presents itself as the manufacturer, because the people answering your technical questions may never see the production line, and the factory behind them can change between orders.

Six Signs You Are Talking to a Real Factory

  • The business licence scope includes manufacturing, not only import and export or technology services, and the registered address matches the factory you are shown.
  • Certificates and test reports name the same company as the applicant or manufacturer. If the reports carry another company’s name, ask who that company is and how they are related. Our guide on who owns the certificate in a private-label charger explains why this matters.
  • The range is focused. A charger factory makes chargers, cables, adapters and related parts. A catalogue that also lists solar lights, power tools and phone cases points to a trader.
  • Engineers answer engineering questions. Ask about relay type, RCD detection, temperature sensing points or firmware update method. A factory can answer in detail or put an engineer on the call.
  • They can show end-of-line testing: hi-pot (dielectric strength) testing, functional charging tests and the record each unit leaves behind.
  • A live video tour is easy to arrange without a long delay, and the equipment, staff and products match what you have been told.

Documents to Request Before Samples

  • Business licence and export registration
  • Certificates and full test reports for the exact model you plan to buy (CE, UKCA, UL or ETL listing, FCC, CB, SAA or others for your market)
  • A product datasheet with ratings, protections and materials; see how to read an EV charger datasheet
  • The quality management certificate, such as ISO 9001, and an outline of incoming, in-process and final inspection
  • Warranty terms and how returns are analysed

If you plan a large or long-term program, an on-site or third-party audit is worth the cost. Our EV charger factory audit checklist lists what to check on the floor.

Where Chinese Charger Factories Are Concentrated

Much of China’s EV charger and charging-cable manufacturing sits in the Pearl River Delta around Shenzhen, Dongguan and Guangzhou, close to electronics component suppliers and the ports of Shenzhen and Hong Kong. The Yangtze River Delta around Shanghai, Suzhou and Zhejiang is the other major cluster. Location alone does not prove quality, but it helps explain short component lead times and frequent shipping schedules.

How EVDANCE Fits

EVDANCE is a charger manufacturer founded in 2011 in Shenzhen. Engineering, injection molding, assembly and testing are done in-house, and products are exported to more than 30 countries. We build portable chargers, wallboxes, adapters and AC stations for private-label partners from 50 units, and every project has a dedicated account engineer. Details are on our OEM and ODM program page, and the full process is covered in our complete guide to OEM and private-label EV chargers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it cheaper to buy from a trading company?

Sometimes for small mixed orders, because the trader combines several products into one shipment. For a single product line, buying from the factory usually removes a margin layer and gives you direct access to engineering and test records.

Can a trading company supply private-label chargers?

Yes, but the trader depends on the factory for logo, firmware and packaging changes, and for certificates. Ask the trader to name the factory and confirm that it will not change without your approval.

How do I check a certificate is genuine?

Look up the certificate number on the issuing body’s online directory, for example the UL or Intertek listing search, and check that the model number and company name match.

Do I need to visit the factory?

Not always. A live video tour plus a third-party audit and pre-shipment inspection is enough for many buyers. A visit is worthwhile before a large first order or a custom design.

Key Takeaways

  • Factories, trading companies and marketplace sellers can all quote chargers, but only a factory controls design, components and test records.
  • Check the business licence, the company named on test reports and a live production-line video before paying for samples.
  • A focused product range and engineers who answer technical questions are strong signs of a real manufacturer.
  • Verify certificate numbers on the issuing body’s directory and match model numbers exactly.
