EV Charging News: Zaptec and Kraken Partner on Smart Tariffs and Vehicle-to-Grid for Charger Owners

Zaptec and Kraken partnered to give charger owners access to smart tariffs, optimised charging, solar integration and vehicle-to-grid services.

EVDANCE Insights · Industry News

Norwegian charger maker Zaptec and energy software platform Kraken announced a partnership on September 4, 2026, according to EV Infrastructure News. The deal connects Zaptec chargers to Kraken’s ecosystem of energy suppliers, giving owners access to smart tariffs and grid services through their existing hardware.

What the Partnership Offers

  • Access to smart EV tariffs and optimised charging for Zaptec charger owners.
  • Solar integration, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and energy flexibility services.
  • Kraken’s partner utilities named include EDF Energy, Octopus Energy and E.ON Next.
  • The partnership covers the European markets where both companies operate.

Hardware as a Platform

Zaptec said it was installing about 1,000 chargers a day in June 2026, and that it is the first manufacturer to receive the Mercury Mark certification for an AC charger, which confirms grid readiness. CEO Kurt Østrem said customers “are no longer choosing hardware alone; they’re choosing the technology that will continue to deliver value throughout its lifetime.”

What It Means for Buyers

Wallbox buyers in Europe increasingly expect their charger to work with energy supplier apps, time-of-use tariffs and solar systems. For distributors, connectivity and supplier integrations are becoming as important as power rating and price. See our UK and Denmark market pages for local smart charging rules and tariffs.
